Linear has entered into a long-term partnership with insurance company If. The first outcome of this collaboration is a completely free legal expenses insurance for residential property transactions.
Legal risks and complex contractual situations are becoming increasingly common concerns for homebuyers and sellers alike. These uncertainties place additional pressure on real estate agents and raise expectations for their role in the transaction process. To address these challenges, Linear and If have joined forces to develop innovative solutions that bring real, tangible value to agents and their customers. By combining If’s strong expertise in insurance with Linear’s technological leadership in the real estate sector, the collaboration lays the foundation for meaningful progress — starting with the launch of a free legal expenses insurance for residential property transactions in Finland.
"Our collaboration with If represents a shift in how one should think about support services in the real estate market. We've long seen how important it is for agents to offer their customers not only a smooth but also a secure transaction experience. Our role is to enable that through technology — but the best solutions emerge when different areas of expertise come together. This partnership is a great example of the direction our industry can take when open-minded thinking meets genuine customer insight," explains Miro Eriksson, CEO of Linear.
"From the very beginning, we saw two things as absolutely critical for success: being there to support the customer during the home buying process, and providing genuine added value to the agents using Linear. It has been incredibly exciting to build something completely unique together — something that has never been seen before in the Finnish market," adds Sami Ristola, Partner Manager of If Insurance.

The development of the legal expenses insurance began with a customer pilot, where the needs of both real estate professionals and consumers were carefully mapped out. A key insight from the pilot was the need for simplicity; new services must support the sales process — not add to the already considerable workload. This principle of ease-of-use guided the development from start to finish, becoming a cornerstone of the final concept.
The service was officially launched to Linear's users in autumn 2024. It covers legal fees for both buyers and sellers in disputes related to the property, and is automatically included in residential property transactions between private individuals made through the Linear platform. The insurance is completely free of charge for all parties and requires no action from agents or end customers. Even customer communication is fully automated as part of the service.
The benefits of the partnership are evident in day-to-day operations — the added layer of protection enhances consumer trust and peace of mind, while giving agents a clear competitive edge in a challenging market. The service has been warmly welcomed by the Linear user community; a large majority have activated the insurance, and thousands of consumers are already enjoying the added security provided by their agents.
"It has been a pleasure to witness how positively our users and their customers have responded to this complimentary layer of protection – a truly unique service concept. We don’t see this as a one-off launch; this benefit is the first, but certainly not the last, joint initiative with If. We're already exploring new ways to expand our collaboration in ways that bring value to the entire industry, all while closely listening to the needs and feedback of real estate professionals," Eriksson reveals.
"It’s extremely encouraging that the customer feedback has been so positive. This motivates us to continue thinking creatively and developing new solutions together," Ristola continues.
